Production Trials with Bay Area Chrysanthemum Growers Association

Funder: California Department of Food and Agriculture, Specialty Crop Block Grant

Partners: Bay Area Chrysanthemums Grower’s Association

Date of project: 2013-2015

SAGE partnered with the Bay Area Chrysanthemum Grower’s Association in the Coyote Valley on production techniques targeted to the greenhouse growers who primarily focus on Asian green vegetables, with goals to improve the grower’s profitability and sustainability. We developed and managed research and demonstration projects with interested growers who want to learn about new crops, new production systems and new markets that could potentially improve their profitability and sustainability.  Completed projects include an irrigation efficiency demonstration project and a weed management demonstration project.

SAGE’s role was to facilitate design the research/demonstration projects based on needs of the grower; provide technical assistance; cover some or all costs of supplies; and conduct field days so that other growers can learn from the research.
