Field Trip Program FAQ’s

What does the program cost? Tuition is $4/student. Schools with 50% or more of the student body on Free/Reduced Meal Program may qualify for reduced tuition and/or subsidized transportation. All other participating schools will need to pay full tuition and provide their own transportation.

Where is the AgPark? The AgPark is located at 505 Paloma Way, in Sunol, CA – 10 miles south of Pleasanton and 7 miles east of Fremont, and is approximately 40 minutes from Berkeley and 30 minutes from Oakland. (use Mapquest, as Google Maps does not recognize this address) form more information follow http://www.sagecenter.org/sunol-agpark/map-directions/

How do we get there? Schools are responsible for their own travel arrangements. In some cases groups may qualify for a travel stipend, in which case SAGE will directly coordinate with a travel provider.

What do we look for when we get there? You will enter the property through the historic Water Temple gates and drive ½ mile towards the Water Temple. Please park in the gravel lot to the left just before the temple. A guide will be there to meet you ( please feel free to stretch your legs and explore the temple area before the program begins).

What should we wear? Please come equipped for varying weather conditions. The Sunol Valley can be chilly/gusting and one moment and hot/sunny at another (dress in layers!). In all cases we require participants to wear close-toed shoes. Hats and sunscreen are also very important.

What if it is raining? Policy TBD.

Do you provide lunch? Students should bring their own lunch and snacks. A drinking water station is available, but each person to should bring a reusable water container. Readily compostable materials (fruit and vegetable scraps) can be left in designated bins, but other trash and recycling will need to return home with the students.

How long does a field trip last? We offer a flexible schedule. Trips typically last from approximately 10am-1pm. Schedules can be adjusted to fit your needs. Expect a brief introduction and 1 or 2 lessons with a lunch/snack break between.

Do you require chaperones? We encourage each group to bring along additional adult support. 2-4 extra adults is usually adequate.

What if our school can’t afford to come? We have financial support available for schools with 50% or more of the student body on a Free/Reduced Meal Program. Your school’s eligibility can be found at http://www.cde.ca.gov/ds/sh/cw/filesafdc.asp. Schools meeting this qualification will receive ½ priced tuition and may qualify for up to $500.00 in transportation stipends. If your school still can’t participate due to lack of funds, please contact SAGE.
